Lake Manyara National Park, situated just 90 minutes from Arusha, is a gem on Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. Known for its alkaline water lake, the park is en route to the famous Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park, making it an ideal stop for travelers. The park’s diverse habitats, which include grassy plains, dense forests, and wetlands, are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including large mammals, reptiles, and birds. One of the park’s most famous residents is the tree-climbing lion, a unique behavior found in only two places in the world: Lake Manyara and the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda. These lions can often be seen lounging on the branches of fig or acacia trees, providing an extraordinary and rare sight for visitors. The park is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 400 species recorded, including flamingos that grace the shores of the lake. Along with the lions, you'll also find buffaloes, giraffes, cheetahs, monkeys, impalas, and olive baboons roaming freely across the park's landscape. Whether you're interested in watching the iconic tree-climbing lions, witnessing the breathtaking spectacle of flamingos, or simply soaking in the park’s varied and beautiful scenery, a visit to Lake Manyara is sure to provide an unforgettable experience.
